Projects
The effect of alkali on burned bone micro- and macrostructure
My names is Holly Baker-Carpenter and I am a current undergraduate 3rd year forensic investigation student with interests in subjects such as forensic anthropology and crime scene investigation.
My final year project entailed burning porcine (pig) bones at varying temperatures for different durations of time. Then submerging them into bleach, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide and leaving them in for up to nine days. After a different number of days seeing how the different solutions affected the bones (e.g. colour, integrity and appearance) as well as how the crystal structure in the bone could have been impacted.
Type of employment sought
An anthropology type role or a laboratory based role.
Areas available to work
Oxfordshire and the south east/west of England
