The Altruistic Mind: Investigating the impact of mindfulness meditation

Previous research indicates that short-term mindfulness enhances altruistic behaviours; however, limited studies explore this connection in VR. This research examined the impact of mindfulness meditation versus relaxation on participants’ altruism in a VR supermarket. 153 adults participated and were divided into intervention and control groups. Although participants completed a mindfulness questionnaire post-intervention, results did not support the hypothesis that those in mindfulness or relaxation conditions would show greater altruism than the control group, or that mindfulness would lead to higher altruism than relaxation. ANCOVA was used for analysis. Future research recommends refining the VR task and extending the intervention duration
