Regularised Marching Tetrahedra (Dissertation)

I’m Cass, a graphics programmer and technical artist, particularly interested in stylised graphics.

For my dissertation I researched isosurface extraction techniques – turning volumetric information into a triangle mesh. Inspired by ASTRONEER’s polygonal terrain, I wanted to look at ways to procedurally generate asteroids from random noise.

My project focused on the ‘regularised marching tetrahedra’ algorithm, which I implemented and improved. I experimented with variations of the technique to see how they impacted performance and visual quality, via benchmarking and questionnaires. Overall my results were very successful – please read my dissertation paper for more information!
