Morphological Mapping of Eurasian Brown Bear Hair Using Microscopy

Hayden Paul Leigh is a BSc (Hons) Forensic Science student at the University of Staffordshire. This project investigates the microscopic and macroscopic characteristics of Eurasian brown bear hair across different body regions using light microscopy, scale casting, and scanning electron microscopy. The project explores how hair morphology varies anatomically and how these differences can improve species identification in wildlife forensic investigations. By developing more cost-effective and reliable alternatives to DNA analysis, the research contributes to wildlife crime detection, forensic interpretation, and the creation of reference data for animal hair identification.
