Hi I’m Ell, I am a 3rd year Forensic Investigation student.

My study examined the potential of eyelash extensions as a form of trace evidence in investigations. Fourteen samples from different brands were analysed using microscopy and FTIR spectroscopy to assess physical, structural and chemical characteristics. While some features, such as width and colour were consistent others varied. FTIR revealed similarities in chemical composition, suggesting a common manufacturing process. Although extensions cannot identify a specific brand, they can still support investigations due to their persistence and transfer. Their ability to carry any biological material could further enhance their evidential value.
