Projects
Vehicle Speed Estimation using Computer Vision and Deep Learning
Hey, I’m Damilola, a final-year AI & Robotics student at Staffordshire University. Driven by my passion for applying emerging technologies to existing systems and processes, I’m drawn to problems where modern systems could replace outdated infrastructure by rethinking how things already work.
This project embodies that philosophy. Rather than replicating expensive sensor-based speed detection, I built a calibration-free computer vision pipeline using YOLOv8, DeepSORT, and XGBoost. This achieved a mean absolute error of 3.66 km/h on unseen vehicles, competitive with published deep learning approaches, on standard CPU hardware with no specialist equipment.
