Bethia has been working with ceramics for 6 years. Regarding herself as an material explorer, she uses an experimental approach to explore the transformation of clay and it’s relationship with other materials. In the project Variations, she uses found materials and paper clay to create sculptural pieces based on the idea of Materiality and Arte Povera. The materials go through different stages of transformation and alteration. By allowing the form to speak itself, an equilibrium occurs between casualness and intention which echoes with Bethia’s view towards the attitude of working with ceramics.
