Projects
To investigate the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus
Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a harmless human commensal carried by 30% of the people globally, on their skin. However, it is also the most pathogenic of all staphylococci, causing opportunistic infections ranging from mild skin infections to highly fatal sepsis. Considered a notorious super-bug due to its evolution as a highly multi-drug resistant pathogen, with methicillin-resistant S. aureus being a pathogen of concern both in healthcare settings and now becoming highly prevalent in communities. S. aureus can easily be transmitted through skin-skin contact and can easily be transmitted through inanimate objects called fomites.
