The Design and Manufacture of a Performance Front Suspension System.

I’m Jacob Lockett, and my involvement in a plan to redesign the Porsche 356 into a present-day performance vehicle provided this project’s objective:

To design and manufacture a performance front suspension system for the Porsche 356.

To achieve this, a methodology was followed which:

  • Gathered research.
  • Acquired data from a Porsche 356 3D Scan.
  • Considered limitations.
  • Completed suspension geometry calculations.
  • Simulated spring and damping response (Simulink)
  • Computer modelled a functional suspension system (Fusion360).
  • Validated designs through a performance vehicle comparison.
  • Simulated loads using FEA (ANSYS).
  • Manufactured the design.

The result demonstrated an 85% suspension geometry improvement, alongside a lower centre of gravity, light-weight construction,  low cost components, and minimal manufacturing waste.
