Skin friction drag on commercial aircraft

The purpose of this project was to analyse several types of riblets using Ansys Fluent and analysing the result of the drag coefficient and lift coefficient. One wing model without riblets and another with riblets were created which went through many changes during the development stages which were created on Autodesk inventor 2024 using data collected from various journals and from the official Boeing website where it was tested computationally. The wing that was modelled was that of the Boeing 777-200 wing. The models were then exported from Autodesk Inventor into Ansys where the flow boundary conditions were applied at commercial aircraft cruising speeds at Mach 0.8. Due to the lack of a base journal referring to the 777-200, an extra step was implemented to create the wing for direct comparison between a wing with riblets and one without them.
