I am a mature student, I was medically retired through ill health having worked in the NHS. I was a carer for 4 years, and was training as a student nurse. I consider myself to be strong on ethics, patient centred care, and empathy. My project was to research the policy known as “safe staffing”. This is widely referred to in hospital wards with “we are safe” boards demonstrating the levels of staff and ratios to patients. However, when working in this environment I was finding that it didn’t seem safe, that is why I chose this dissertation topic.
