Held, Not Spoken: Fragmented Maternal Narratives
My work explores how motherhood and care are shaped by repetition, expectation and emotional labour. Through installation, light and text, I examine the shifting boundaries of maternal identity and the tension between idealised representations of motherhood and lived, embodied experience. Drawing on process-based methods, I use material experimentation to evoke fragmented thought, memory and feeling, reflecting the complexity of care as both sustaining and depleting. The work invites reflection on the unseen and often conflicting emotions embedded in maternal life, exposing the ambivalence, vulnerability, and resilience that lie beneath dominant narratives of motherhood and care.
