Diagnostic Accuracy of Real-Time PCR for the Detection of community MRSA

I am a Biomedical Science student specialising in infectious disease diagnostics, with a strong interest in rapid molecular testing and public health. My project investigates the diagnostic accuracy of real‑time PCR for detecting community‑associated MRSA, comparing its performance with traditional culture methods. Through a systematic review of published studies, I evaluated sensitivity, specificity, specimen types, and methodological quality to understand factors influencing test reliability. The findings highlight PCR as a fast and highly accurate tool for MRSA screening, supporting its use in community settings while emphasising the need for standardised targets and improved accessibility.
