Developing a morphing winglet to reduce wake turbulence on the Airbus A380
This project designs and analyzes a morphing winglet for the Airbus A380 to reduce wake turbulence and drag. Initially, the existing A380 winglet was modeled and analyzed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to establish baseline values for drag and vortex patterns. A new morphing winglet with variable geometry was then developed to enhance performance under varying flight conditions. Integrated into the A380 wing, its aerodynamic characteristics were be evaluated using CFD. Results were compared to the original wingtip fence, focusing on improvements in lift-to-drag ratio and operational efficiency.
