Design by Subtraction and its Efficiency Compared to Other Methods

Hello, I’m Will. I predominantly have skills within design and producer/team management roles and am looking for a career in either area. I studied Game Design at Stafford College and then studied Gameplay Design and Production at the University of Staffordshire, further building upon my skills in both design and production.

 

My project explored the “Design by Subtraction” method by Fumito Ueda, used in ICO. I examined its potential to streamline game development, reduce budgets, and enhance immersion. I also analysed how minimalist design principles could be applied more broadly to create impactful, focused gaming experiences with fewer resources and distractions.

Type of employment sought
I am looking for Producer, Marketing, Team management, Level design and Game Design roles. I have led several teams at university, one of which was a hybrid team of 30 members spread across two campuses. For Game Design, I have a good understanding of key principles as seen in my portfolio.


Areas available to work
I am ideally looking for positions within the West Midlands but am open to explore any positions available within the UK.
