Flow separation Control using Delta Type and Rectangular Vortex Generators

This project investigates the effects of delta type and rectangular vortex generators on a NACA 4412 aerofoil using ANSYS Fluent (CFD), utilising the k-ω SST turbulence model at a Reynolds number of 291,000, across angles of attack from 0 to 14 degrees. Results show both VG types significantly delay aerodynamic stall, achieving a 20% lift improvement and 64% drag reduction at 14° compared to the unmodified wing. Delta-type VGs produced lower parasitic drag at lower angles, making them the preferred choice for low speed applications such as UAVs.
